Leiden

Production: In 2020 it was 400 years since the Pilgrims decided to move to the New World from Delfshaven and Leiden. In honor of that anniversary year, the opera The Pilgrimgirl by Intorno will be performed (a year later due to corona). A special opera that in its own way brings an illustrious history back to life. The opera consists of three acts and takes place during a Thanksgiving dinner of a family consisting of a father, mother and daughter Rosa. Rosa is a recalcitrant daughter. At the beginning of each act, one of the players sings a short piece about the history of the Pilgrim Fathers. In each act, Indian singing (in English) is heard in the background. Where the party ends in a bad atmosphere, the Indian texts go through a reverse order: from threat and lament to hopefulPart: Bauwien van der Meer: Rosa, Waldin Roes: mother, Michel Poels: father, Helena Sokolova, violin, Ania Katynska, cello (28.08 en 31.10), Nina Hitz, cello (05.09, 14.11 en 26.11) and Marco Kalkman, compositions, Bert Schuiling, direction and Arie Vuyk, Libretto.
